How does it work?

To enter the 2019 Nourish Awards register HERE

Entries for the 2019 Award season are open from 7 January 2019. To enter, please fill out the Registration form and include the correct entry fees. Entries close on 1 April 2019.

Next, you will be asked to submit the Product Information Form with your product details and send your products for judging. Finalists will be announced at the end of June. Join us for the Awards Gala in September to celebrate the winners and perhaps collect an award yourself!

Entry Criteria Overview (scroll down for full details)

Each product can be entered into a maximum of 3 categories and must be free from: MSG, aspartame, GMO ingredients, trans fats and artificial colours and flavours.

Dairy & Gluten: Apart from 2 categories (16. Dairy with a difference and 25. Wild Card) all products must be free from gluten, wheat and dairy (eggs are fine).

Sugar & Sweeteners: Most products must be free from refined sugar and chemical sweeteners. Refined sugar is permitted in some products including savoury bakes, fermented products, cured meats – where applicable, exemption is stated at each category. A full list of permitted sugars and sweeteners can be found in the entry guidelines below. Products in the Wild Card category may include refined sugar and any other ingredient.

Judged by Industry Experts & Nutritionists

Entries will be judged by industry experts, nutritionists, natural therapists and professionals. 2019 awards judges to be announced. Last year’s judges included Naomi Devlin, Christine Bailey  and Deborah Meaden. Find out all about our Judges.

Products will be judged based on their nutritional qualities, quality of ingredients, health benefits, taste, texture and more.

All entries will receive valuable feedback from our expert judges.

Cost of Entry

Entries cost £90 / product. This covers the cost of admin, organising, judging and product promotions – including the People’s Choice Award. Each product can enter into up to 3 categories, additional categories cost £30.

If you are a micro-business and make your products fresh, please enter into our Freshly made / Small producers category. This is only open for businesses who sell at their own premises, markets or a few local shops and make everything in small batches and fresh.

25 categories

There are 25 categories to choose from to ensure that products are judged against similar products. The Wild Card Category is for truly unique products and for those that do not fit other categories. We revise the categories every year.

Unless exception is given in your category, all entries must be free from gluten, dairy, refined white sugar and artificial flavours and sweeteners.

In addition to our Category Awards we are proud to recognise entrants who go the extra mile for the environment by using organic ingredients, fairtrade, sustainable production method, recycled packaging or donate a portion of their profits to good causes.

People Choice Awards

People’s Choice Special Award as chosen by the public. The Public will vote for their favourites from the shortlist.

Public Vote will take place on this site and will be open in July & August. The results of the vote will NOT be combined with professional judging but the winners will receive the People’s Choice Award at the Gala.

Celebrating Excellence

The Award Gala will take place in September at the prestigious Cheltenham Racecourse, home to the Gold Cup.

The event will include a drinks reception with a healthy free-from buffet, networking and photo opportunities.

Presenting the awards is Naomi Devlin – nutritionist, fermented food and gut health expert, teacher and author of the River Cottage Gluten Free and Food for a Happy Gut cookbooks.

Full Entry Criteria

Entry Criteria Each product can be entered into a maximum of 3 categories and must be free from: MSG, aspartame, GMO ingredients, trans fats and artificial colours and flavours.

Products that don’t fulfil the entry criteria in the category they entered will be moved into our “Wild Card” category.

  1. Product availability in the UK Products must be available to order online or purchase at retail outlets in the UK by 30th September 2019.
  2. Products must be in full retail packaging and sold online or at retail outlets. There is a dedicated category for small producers who sell locally or make fresh produce in small batches or make to order.
  3. The Nourish Awards organisers reserve the right to disqualify products or to move them into the correct category. Entrants will be informed of this decision.

Wheat & Gluten

Except for the ‘Wild Card’ category all products must be free from wheat and gluten.


Except for the ‘Wild Card’ and ‘Dairy with a difference’ categories all products must be free from dairy. The ‘Dairy with a difference’ category is only open for dairy products such as milk, yoghurt, ice-cream, cheese, chilled or frozen desserts, kefir etc. (not products containing dairy).

Sugar & sweeteners

All products must be free from refined sugars and artificial sweeteners. A small amount of refined sugar is permitted in some products including savoury bakes, fermented products & cured meats – where applicable, exemption is stated at each category.

Permitted sugars and sweeteners: raw cane sugar, unrefined cane sugar, mascovado sugar, molasses, honey, maple syrup, maple sugar, dates, date sugar, date syrup, jaggery, dried fruit, fruit pure, evaporated cane juice, coconut sugar, coconut syrup, pomegranate molasses, monk fruit, lucuma, brown rice syrup, yacon syrup, agave syrup, xylitol, stevia, erythritol, sorbitol, maltitol, and mannitol

Not permitted sugars & sweeteners: refined white or brown sugar (small amounts permitted in exempt categories), glucose syrup, sucralose, aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, Acesulfame-potassium any other refined sugars and artificial sweeteners.
